Common St. Augustine Grass: Grown in the hot humid parts of the United States. Even though this is the most widely used variety, it's also the oldest.
Best attribute:
- Outstanding shade tolerance
Worst attribute:
- It's susceptible to lawn diseases such as St. Augustine Decline (SAD), leaf spot, and brown patch
- It's attacked by insects (chinch bugs and white grubs)
- Low wear tolerance so it's undesirable for heavily used lawns
- Isn't cold-tolerant
- It's a course-textured grass
