Raleigh St. Augustine Grass: Florida and Texas A & M were pleased with their "new" St. Augustine variety, but North Carolina State University released an even better variety of St. Augustine. They named it Raleigh, after Raleigh, North Carolina.
Best attribute:
- Resistant to the St. Augustine Decline (SAD)
- Resistant to chinch bugs
- Extremely cold tolerant
Worst attribute:
- More susceptible to brown patches and gray leaf spots than the Floratam or Common St. Augustine
- Not shade tolerant
